An Active Engagement or Mindless Browsing?

I have been noticing a lot recently the inseparable relationship between people and their mobile phones. During the visits of my close ones, both family and friends, to my place, I couldn’t help but wonder at their habit of drowning their eyes into social media platforms especially before going to sleep and right after they wake up. I do snatch their phones away sometimes, especially if they get to those in the early morning which of course they find highly irritating and selfish(I agree). But it makes them keep their trip short, funny as it is, I have to admit it is an ‘added advantage’ to me.

Billion dollar companies are putting the employees on deadlines “How to keep people attached to the devices, on a specific platform” and fulfilling their vision of becoming the Next big fish or staying the big fish. And people are financing their vision by investing their time and energy into it while giving one’s monkey mind the dopamine hit that it wants.

I am aware that I might be acting like a cynic over this issue, presumably.

The question is “How can we use these platforms for our vision/daily purpose to be fulfilled and isn’t one’s vision kind of giving the dopamine hit to the people that they could see as a waste of their time and energy? Where is the line?

I believe it’s like shopping, knowing what we want, going to the place or getting onto the shopping platform and making the purchase, in a well informed, decision based and mindful way,

versus,

Mindless window shopping to feel good or to just shoot the hours down a minute at a time without even realizing!
